Googling for translators: getting the best out Internet search tools
Speakers
Abstract
Google, Exalead and other search engines provide a plethora of tools to make your Internet searches more focussed and effective, yet these techniques are often underused by translators and internet searchers in general. This presentation will look at simple ways to improve your searches using the special operators provided by Google et al to this end. For example, we will be looking – from the perspective of a translator working between Japanese and English - at how to search individual sites from within Google, how to look for information in the titles that webmasters choose to include in their webpages, and how to explore linked pages on similar themes.
