Sydney is regularly voted the world's best city and most beautiful harbour. So why not visit us downunder, combine the IJET conference with an extended holiday and enjoy all that Sydney and the rest of Australia has to offer? Come see our reef, rainforests, beaches and deserts. Or just celebrate Valentines Day in style at the hotel with the best view of Sydney!

The theme of IJET-20 is Striving and Thriving. We will be presenting a wide variety of content for translators and interpreters in an innovative program that will keep you interested till the end. Or if you just want the networking opportunities that come with an IJET, we can help you with that as well - from a spectacular harbour cruise (optional) as the Zenyasai to a sumptuous banquet (included) in the Grand Hall of Australia's oldest university, we have opportunities galore.

The early-bird discount period for signing up is over, but there are still plenty of reasons why going to Sydney, Australia in mid-February to attend IJET-20 is a great idea. You will get to be part of a professional translators' conference with a multi-faceted and exciting program, held smack dab in the middle (or a little North of it) of one of the great harbor cities in the world, during the Southern hemisphere summer.

Plus, if you are an ATA member, you will be glad to hear that the American Translators Association has officially approved IJET-20 as an event that will earn ATA members 10 CE (Continuing Education) credit points. (ATA-certified translators must earn 20 points of continuing education credit over 3 years to keep their certification current.)

The International Japanese English Translation conference (IJET) was established by JAT in 1990 and has since evolved into a highly successful annual event that brings together language practitioners from all over the world. It is held alternatingly in Japan and in an English-speaking country, and the Sydney event will mark the 20th anniversary of an unbroken string of successful conferences.

IJET-20 will be held at the North Sydney Harbourview Hotel on 14-15 February 2009, preceded by a zenyasai harbor cruise on, yes, Friday the 13th.

Current signup count stands at about 100, with five weeks still to go. This augurs well for the conference and is an indication that in spite of the difficult economic climate at the moment, translators still place a high value on professional development as well as the opportunity for socializing with their peers. It also may have something to do with the fact that the exchange rate of the Aussie dollar at the moment is pretty favorable...
