Welcome to the IJET-18 website. J-Net is proud to be hosting the 18th annual IJET conference here at Bath University on Saturday and Sunday, 23rd and 24th June 2007. We trust that you will find our program interesting and that you will also take the opportunity to explore one of the most beautiful parts of the UK.
Around the City of Bath
Bath is set in the northern part of Somerset on the edge of ancient Wessex. For information about places to visit beyond Bath click here. There is beautiful rolling countryside around the city. It is on the fringes of the Cotswolds, an area of outstanding natural beauty.
The city itself
The city itself is just 1 hour and 40 minutes from central London by train. As a World Heritage City it is well known for its unique attractions like the the Roman Baths, its wonderful Georgian architecture such as the Royal Crescent, the Abbey and its many museums and galleries like the Museum of Costume and the American Museum all of which provide a wealth of culture and interest.
There is also the newly opened Thermae Bath Spa, the only natural thermal spa in the UK.
With a rooftop pool overlooking the city, this is a highlight of a trip to Bath, but don’t expect the standard Onsen experience here.
Bath is also very well known for its shopping and arts and entertainment. There are several theatres such as the Theatre Royal which regularly shows famous plays and ballets. There are also a couple of cinemas such as the Odeon or the alternative cinema, ‘Little Theatre’.
Walking tours
The Mayor's Guides FREE Walking Tours leave from the Pump Rooms by the Roman Baths Monday - Sunday 10.30 and Sunday - Friday 14.00 all year. Additionally, tours run May - September on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 19.00. The tour, which lasts around 2 hours, is a general historical and architectural introduction to the city.
