Scripting for Translators

Speakers

Abstract

Ryan Ginstrom will talk about using scripting to make you more productive and happier as a translator.

Many of the translator's tasks are boring and repetitive, yet there are no programs on the market that will do them for us. Enter scripting: using a scripting language, you can automate your own personal workflow, saving time and frustration. In this talk, I will show how translators can use the easy-to-learn Python programming language to do lots of boring translator tasks. Topics to be covered include: automatically importing glossaries and wordlists into your favourite dictionary/translation memory program; automatically generating invoices; and using text-to-speech to proof-listen your translations.

If you plan to attend the presentation, please drop me a note at software@ginstrom.com, and let me know what experience (if any) you have with Python or other programming languages, as well as any tasks or topics you would like covered.
