Dancing in a Straightjacket: Making restrictions work for you in entertainment translation

Much like writing a haiku, entertainment translation means doing battle with restrictions of genre, format, and line length. Manga text is squeezed within bubbles and around artwork, subtitles race to keep up with dialogue, video game text gets crammed onto an iPhone screen, and dubbed voices need to fit foreign lips. In this talk, we'll explore ways of keeping a localized product entertaining despite the restrictions, and how to make the restrictions work for you.

This talk will contain lots of real-world examples!
