Tim Gellel

Like so many Australians before him, service with the Australian Army provided Tim Gellel with opportunities to experience Japan, including through language training as a junior officer, and as an exchange student with both the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Staff College, and the Japan National Institute for Defense Studies. Tim also served as the Assistant Defence Attaché, and later as the Defence Attaché with the Australian Embassy in Tokyo. After retiring from the Army in 2017, he took up the role as the civilian Head of the Australian Army History Unit.
