Jeremy Angel (IJET-22)

Born in 1951 in the UK, Jeremy Angel studied zoology at Oxford and social anthropology at LSE prior to gravitating by chance to Japan in 1976. After spending 7 years in Mutsugoro's Animal Kingdom (animal writer Masanori Hata's private menagerie located in Hokkaido), he spent 20 years traveling the world on other people's money working as an associate producer and stills photographer for Hata's highly popular TV series until it folded in 2000, while also carrying out translation, interpretation and coordination assignments for other clients. He has been translating full-time since 2000. Recent jobs include CSR reports (both translation and checking/editing other translators' work) for major Japanese enterprises, NHK special documentary narrations, newspaper and magazine articles and press releases for IT majors, and Faculty of Agriculture website for a famous university. Also had the nerve, in more innocent days, to co-translate James Herriot's Dog Stories into Japanese with Masanori Hata. His photos have appeared in various publications, and he is a published author in both English and Japanese. He lives in the countryside in Nagano-ken with his wife Chiyoko, a town councilor, and 2 cats now that all 4 kids have flown the coop to various parts of the world.
