Translator and Interpreter Ethics. What are you trying to hide?

The translation and interpreting industry has an enthusiasm for discussions about “Ethics”, the grounds for which are not immediately apparent.

After carefully defining his terms, Chris will examine some outstanding historical and contemporary examples of scandalously unethical behaviour by translators and interpreters; provide some practical tips and philosophical notes on how we might avoid or escape such situations, and put to the audience that the single greatest ethical challenge facing the T&I community rarely commands their attention or excites their concern. He otherwise welcomes hearty derision, pompous dismissal and vitriolic excoriation from the deeply wounded and venomously skeptical people remaining at the end of the allotted time.
