Phil Robertson

Phil Robertson grew up in London, read Computer Science at Cambridge, and worked in the motor-racing industry in the UK for four years before coming to Japan in 1990. He is a professional translator and cofounder (with Paul Flint) of Honyaku Plus. Based in Jimbocho, Tokyo, Honyaku Plus was incorporated in 2003 and specializes in top-quality translation in the fields of international relations, information technology, emerging technologies, medicine, economics, digital camera technology, and sport.

Phil's prior working career in Japan included five-year stints at Yamaha Motors and Toshiba Semiconductor, which were followed by the 2002 FIFA World Cup and a year working at the Institute for International Policy Studies, a Tokyo thinktank founded by Prime Minister Nakasone. Phil’s hobbies include chess, soccer, the martial arts, cinema, blues music, and exotic travel. He is also involved with various Tokyo-based NPOs, and in 2008, 2009 and 2010 he ran the Tokyo Marathon, raising money for the Tyler Foundation, a Tokyo-based children's cancer charity, and for Refugees International Japan.

IJET-22 in Seattle will be the eleventh IJET that Phil has attended, and he has many fond memories of this event in previous years.

Since 2007 Phil has served on the JAT Board as IJET liaison officer and was the organization's vice president from 2008 to 2009.
