What Medical Translators Need to Know About Writing for Publication in Biomedical Journals
Manuscripts submitted to peer-reviewed biomedical journals are subjected to a rigorous review before they are either accepted for publication or rejected. Competitive high-impact journals have rejection rates as high as 90%. To be acceptable for publication, manuscripts must satisfy general as well as journal-specific requirements, and conform to numerous stylistic conventions, many of which are peculiar to the field of medicine. In addition, authors must develop an understanding of what editors and reviewers look for in a paper and learn how to avoid common reviewer criticisms, thus increasing the chances of acceptance.
