Translating Form
The notion of the ‘haiku in English’ is a contested area, the completely different structures of Japanese and English rendering the always problematic process of translation more complex still. Acknowledging but eschewing these linguistic concerns, this part of the workshop will look at how this and other Japanese forms have been incorporated into English poetry, and will explore their creative possibilities. There will be opportunity for writing and sharing work.
