Pitfalls for Patent Translators
The World Intellectual Property Organization, a specialized organization of the United Nations, has the goal of providing an efficient and accessible intellectual property system with benefits for all. A part of this goal is the Translation Fellowship Program, which aims to introduce postgraduates to the world of patent translation and to train future patent translators. In this session, the structure of our training program and our quality control methodology will be briefly discussed, before analyzing trends that have arisen in quality control data gathered from participants in the program. Some common translation pitfalls encountered by our fellows will then be addressed, and methods for avoiding these pitfalls will be proposed.
