Business and IP Management in Japanese Companies
In recent years the competitiveness of the Japanese industries, especially electronic industries, which reached the height of the 1980s in the world, is decreasing in the rise of neighboring Asian countries. The main reason is that Japanese companies were unable to supply the best products needed in the international market, but other important reason is the intellectual property management in the companies that should support the business. Japanese companies have grown by importing (licensing in) technologies from the U.S. and Europe until 1990, but lost their international market share due to exports (licensing out) or outflows of their technologies to neighboring Asian countries. I will introduce the intellectual property management that should support the business of Japanese companies in the future, technology license and business, and the strategies of obtaining intellectual property including translation in Japanese companies.
