This interactive session is geared towards both new and experienced translators who have done little to no technical translation work from Japanese to English in the field of patents, but who are curious about what it entails. The session will begin with a presentation of the four key concepts behind technical translation, using English examples and some hands-on exercises to demonstrate these concepts. It will then transition to a (pressure-free!) interactive workshop in which we further explore the four pillars using actual examples taken from a past Japanese-English test used to qualify candidates entering the Japanese to English translation program at the World Intellectual Property Organization.
Workshop attendees are encouraged to bring an internet-ready device (smartphone, tablet or notebook computer) so that they can participate in the interactive exercises.
