Microsoft’s Use of Automatic Translation
This presentation will cover Machine Translation basics and translation quality considerations, with an overview of the engine technology and the process of training the translation engine with new or selected data to improve the quality of the system for a particular style and terminology. It will also look at Machine Translation usage at Microsoft: how a system is tuned for Microsoft’s use, the applications of automatic translation within the company, its successes and its failures. We’ll go over some of the pitfalls and considerations of publishing raw material vs. post-editing machine-translated material with human translators. We’ll emphasize recent and near-term future developments that make the adoption of automatic translation more interesting than ever before.
