A very brief introduction will be given to the deposition phase of discovery in US civil litigation, followed by more details regarding the niche field of deposition interpreting. Topics covered will include litigation party demographics, client demographics, the requirements of the deposition interpreting task, the differences between deposition interpreting and other types of JA<->EN interpreting, and some specific examples of the things that can happen in deposition interpreting. The business aspects of deposition interpreting will also be discussed, including fees, the demand for deposition interpreting in Japan and in the US, and business problems specific to deposition interpreting.
