パネルセッション: 被爆手記翻訳体験談

This workshop will discuss the unique problems of translating atomic bomb survivor testimony, based on the experience of managers, translators and editors who helped the Asahi Shimbun translate over 200 survivor stories for the website Memories of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The panel will include Mr. Toshihiro Shiroishi, who managed the project, along with Ms. Nora Stevens Heath and Ms. Julianne Long, who edited many of the accounts. The panel will be coordinated by Steven Leeper, who estimates that he has translated and interpreted more Hiroshima survivor testimony than anyone in the world except his wife. The substance of the stories being translated will communicate both the special nature of survivor testimony translation and the urgency of the nuclear weapon problem.
