Optimising the use of Automatic Speech Recognition tools

This interactive session will demonstrate a range of practical applications of Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) tools for professional translators.

Using examples backed up by academic research conducted with the help of fellow translators, we will explore the paradox of low ASR uptake in our profession despite proven advantages in terms of productivity, as well as ergonomics.

We will demonstrate the use of ASR in a variety of scenarios, with several CAT tools and for several activities, including the dictation and correction of a translation, the transcription of a recording, and the training of the ASR tool’s vocabulary for even better performance.

Moreover, we will also go beyond these very popular applications of ASR and we will see other ways in which this technology can be used to increase the quality and speed of the translated output.
