Court can be an overwhelming environment. A lot is at stake. The interpreter’s role is a delicate one and the court environment is changing. With an increasing number of video assignments and last-minute bookings, it is not for the faint-hearted. We will look at some scenarios and the linguistic gymnastics required by court interpreters. And we will consider some key questions for the future of this vital space: Do we have an Uberisation of the workforce? Is AI making an impact? Can courts have better outcomes under the current model?
