Cairns, in Far North Queensland, experiences hot and humid summers (Dec-Feb) and mild, dry winters (Jun-Aug). Winter in Cairns is fairly warm and comfortable with slightly cooler temperatures and lower humidity, making it the peak tourist season. During the day, high temperatures reach about 26 degrees Celsius. At night, it can get as chilly as 14 degrees, although it typically comes in at around 19 degrees. Rain is relatively infrequent in Cairns in June. There is a running joke among the locals that the best way to brave the Cairns winter is to swap out your singlet for a t-shirt and wear socks with your thongs.
