Maho Fukuno

Maho holds a PhD in linguistics from the Australian National University and is a lecturer in Japanese Studies at RMIT University's School of Global, Urban and Social Studies. Her research sits at the intersection of translation studies, linguistics and applied ethics, with a focus on reconstructing ethical frameworks for translators' and interpreters' professional practice to make multicultural communication support fairer and more morally sensitive. Current projects examine practitioner roles as perceived by themselves, service recipients and other stakeholders across public health translation and deafblind communication services. Her work takes a constructionist approach, drawing on appraisal analysis, critical discourse analysis and ethnography.
