IJET-34 (5–6 September 2026)
Session
Interpreter Jam: Interpreting as interaction
Facilitators: Anna Berry Fukuda, Heather Glass, Rita Ormsby
In this collegiate, experiential session, you will share and learn from each other, and try out interpreting techniques and concepts that may be new or examined from a new angle. You will be guided to explore what AI will never be able to do: manage the humanness of interpreted interaction, in all its diversity. We will focus on adjusting space – physical, digital and personal – to maximise interpreting performance, looking at interaction management in its broadest sense.
The facilitators of this session between them have interpreting experience that covers the full range of business, community and diplomatic domains, in chuchotage (whispered interpreting), conference, dialogue, monologue (long consecutive), remote court and simultaneous interpreting settings – in and beyond Australia.
