The phrase “who knit ‘ya?” is Newfoundland slang for “who are your parents?” and highlights the close-knit nature of rural communities in Newfoundland and the importance of connections. Translators and interpreters also form a close-knit community, but recent advancements in AI have started to unravel our community and it has become more important than ever to take stock of who we are as translators and interpreters.

Because Toronto is one of the most multicultural cities in the world, we want to highlight presentations that address how translators and interpreters tackle the problems faced with localization and the culture of the target audience. The identity of the target audience as well as the identity of the translator/interpreter are important aspects of the work we do as language experts.
